Budget Appraisal

At the end of our production we were under budget and the final sum came to £3,792.98.
Originally we were under budget as the total was £4315.04 which is £684.96 under budget.
When it came to shooting we had a meeting to discuss budget and concluded in using less locations and less actors which meant we had to decrease the budget.

Production Diary - after meeting

The meeting went really well as we discussed final changes to the budget and music video. Overall our client was really happy with the final music videos and also the changes. We asked if there was any questions to which our client responded with a question about the smashing glass scene. We then explained this scene couldnt take place because of health and safety reasons which the pub explained to us. Our client was then happy with this.

Production Diary

During editing i used software that i hadnt used before however i got on really well with it and enjoyed editing shots we got from filming. At the start of my music video i focus on the instruments, zooming in on them and disolving one into the other; i did this to attrat the t.a as they like live bands and instruments as they probably play one themselves. I also had to crop the sound on the music video at the end as the song was too long. I feel i achieved this well because you cant tell very well that i have done it.

Production Planning

As most of our locations were filmed outside we didnt need any artificial lighting because we filmed on sunny days; we also filmed in a studio for the band performance which went well. The only props we used were the instruments for the band as we wanted to portray a live element as this appeals to our t.a. The actors were also dressed to suit the t.a however our actors had a similar style to our t.a therefore we didnt use costumes.

Outlines of Possible Treatments

As a group we came up with several different ideas about how to shoot our video and where however some ideas werent possible because of various reasons such as weather and transport.
For the couple scenes we wanted to film along a beach but this then proved to be a problem because of the weather; there was alot of snow at the time and if it wasnt snowing it was raining.
Tansport was another issue for us as we wanted to shoot in locations where we couldnt get to. We researched gardens in norwich and found one that we loved however transporting equipment was an issue for us as we couldnt carry everything we needed therefore needed a car which we didnt have. Finally we wanted a scene with a glass smashing on the floor but for health and safety reasons this wasnt possible.

Record of Work

During the course we were all given different roles within our group and mine was production manager.
As production manager i primarily had to negotiate things such as cast, budget and location and being the link between the producer, director and also the clientel. I enjoyed my role and i found as i had to do alot of talking to different people it made me more confident.
Some of the things i have achieved would be, editing on software, using a camera, organizing people, paper work such as risk assessments and communicating as a group.

How will you ensure yor audience 'get the message'?

My music video will appeal to the t.a because the actors in the video have the same style as them, used locations they will recognise and edited my video with scene changes which arent cheesey as they can sometimes come across this way. We also had live band performance scenes which our t.a like so this will also appeal to them.

We will disribute the music video using sites such as you tube, facebook, myspace and 4music channel. Our t.a use all of these therefore we think they will enjoy viewing the video in these ways and also discussing it on social networking sites.

Reflecting on My Video

Overall i think my music video is a success as i have included elements from the original brief and also made it my own. Strengths of my video would include; my shot types and angles, editing skills and lip syncing. I have used cuts so my video doesn't seem cheesy as it could because its a relationship video with lovey dovey scenes. Unfortunately i do have weaknesses in my video such as one scene it is speeded up so the drum beats and lip syncing if looked closely dont go to the beat or follow the lyrics. When filming we could of used better locations and improved some scenes as the camera appears to be moving free hand sometimes however this can be an advantage at some points as it seems real life.
As the song was too long i had to cut it and i personally think i achieved this very well considering i havnt had any editing experience before.

Feedback from others about my music video:

I asked people what they thought of my music and posted it on facebook. Overall i got really good constructive feedback which included strengths and weaknesses. Everyone who viewed my video thought it was successful and enjoyed it. A weakness was the camera movement appearing shakey as it was done free hand. However overall my feedback was successful.

Reflecting on Creative Career

I have developed several skills which could help me in a future career. I could also use my music video as an example of work i can do and it also shows i have an understanding of editing software. My music video could be included in my portfolio and this would show i can not only use the software but i have knowledge of everything that goes with it such as using a camera, meeting deadlines and the theory side also such as risk assessments and so on.

Reflecting On Skills

What skills have you used/strengthened/developed during this project? What are you better at? What have you learned how to do?
-Technical skills
During the unit i have developed my technical skills by being able to now use editing software without help. Previous to this i had never used any type of editing software so if i had to do another project like this i think i would be ok to edit myself. I also gained knowledge of how to use a camera correctly, again i had never used one before and now i feel confident when using one.

-Client skills
My client skills have improved a lot from the first meeting we had. I feel more confident now when in the meetings and feel i can speak freely now without feeling embarressed therefore i feel i can interact with the client much better than before.

-People skills, organisation and project management skills
As i undertook the role of production manager i had to negociate things such as cast, locations, crew and budget. I was also a link between the producer, director and clientel. As i had a big role this definitely improved my skills as i had to interact with a lot of different people. I also think my organisation has improved as i had to organise several things for shoot days and crew.

5th feb 2010

First day of filming-
We have booked the drama studio for lunchtime and found two students to act as the band members. I brought in my guitar to use as a prop and we checked that the drums and microphone where available to use. We also learnt how to use the lighting system and work the music box. We are hopeing to film the whole song through 3 times to experiment with different shot types and angles, also so that we have enough succesful footage to edit and complete the video. We are going to include extreme close ups of the instruments and use a tripod so the camera is still.
